Setting the Current Balance of your Cash Drawer (Float/ Money In)
Once the prior days takings have been finalised the current cash drawer balance will be set to $0. Recording a Money In will set the current balance of your cash drawer for a float or starting balance.
Recording a Money In
- On the POS click Menu
- Select Money In/Out
- Enter the amount you wish to start off with in the till (e.g. $200 in Cash)
- Select Save Money In to save the amount recorded into the Current Takings Balance.
The current balance in your current takings record will be set to the amount entered. In this case $200. You can review this in the Money History and Current Takings record by selecting the Finalised Takings option in the top left menu.
Recording Money Withdrawn (Cash clear / Petty Cash purchases)
If money is withdrawn from your cash drawer, it is important to record the event in Kounta so that your takings will still balance at the end of the day. A Money Out would be used to withdraw floats, do a cash clear on busy days or more commonly for Petty Cash purchases.
Recording a Money Out
- On the POS click Menu
- Select Money In/Out
- Enter the amount being withdrawn by tender (e.g. $50 Cash Out for a Petty Cash Purchase)
- Select Save Money Out to save the amount recorded out of the Current Takings Balance.
The current balance in your current takings record will be adjusted to the amount entered. In this case $50 will be deducted from your total cash balance. You can review this in the Money History and Current Takings record by selecting the Finalised Takings option in the top left menu.
Finalising Takings / End of Day Reconciliation
- Login with your user (ensure you have adequate permissions to perform a Finalised Takings Report)
- On the POS click Menu
- Select Takings
- Select Finalise My Takings
- Enter the counted amounts for each payment type. Integrated Payment types like Tyro will automatically reconcile (entering of a counted amount is not required).
- Select Finalise Takings
You will be shown a completed Finalised Takings Report. This report will show three columns - Counted, Recorded and Variance.
Note:
If you have declared incorrect payment types for some transactions throughout the day your total variance will remain the same.
To adjust this you will need to find the offending transaction, reverse it and reenter with the correct payment type. The ability to adjust the payment type may come in the future.
